Interviewed by Corriere dello Sport, Alessandro Costacurta, former Milan defender, spoke about Arrigo Sacchi, his former coach at Milan:
“He made me understand where and how I could improve if I had followed him. At first, his instructions seemed too rigid, almost bureaucratic. ‘Position your foot like this, adjust your stance on the attacker, beside him, not behind.’ Before that, no one had taught me how to position myself on the pitch, not even the great Liedholm. The rest was Capello’s work, shaping mentality and consistency," as relayed via Milan News.
On Milan’s current coach, Massimiliano Allegri, Costacurta said:
“Max knows football and players perfectly, he understands timing, he knows how to handle every situation, and his teams can endure the moments when suffering dominates. There are no teams that haven’t faced difficult times; even my best Milan had many. Allegri gives you many clues to follow. Is his Milan a title contender? In my opinion, no. The squad lacks depth. If they can stay compact, they can get results. Due to the characteristics of his players, especially at the back, he is forced to defend deep.”
