The AC Milan head coach, after his side's win against Lecce 1-0 at the San siro, has spoken to the media in a press conference.
Three 1-0 wins for Inter, Milan, and Napoli: how much will the Champions League affect things?
“I don’t know if the Champions League or anything else will have an impact. I only know that tonight it was important to win. Lecce is a team that stays in the game; they have conceded many goals in the last 20-25 minutes. We were good, especially tonight, in having a solid defensive phase while building our play. In the second half, we needed to be clearer and more precise, less frantic. Then, when they dropped off, we increased our speed. We could have scored earlier, and that’s something we absolutely need to improve.”
Why didn’t you put Fullkrug on earlier?
“Because the team was doing well. I found it hard to make changes because the team felt capable of scoring. Then we needed a central striker; the three behind were doing their preventive marking well, so there wasn’t much need to change. These are the kinds of games where, if a defensive move goes wrong in a favorable situation, you risk conceding a goal.”
Do the players have to solve problems themselves? Allegri replied:
“Jashari played a great match, Ricci too. We could have been more precise with the passes in behind, but in the second half we also built good sequences of play. We need to improve our ruthlessness in scoring and our precision. When spaces are tight, individual play has to emerge. It’s hard to systematize a play near the box; that’s something we need to work on.”
On Niclas Fullkrug, Allegri said:
“The fact that he didn’t stop for the foot problem shows he has a lot of desire and brings positive energy. But we are still far from our objective. Building play is hard, and what comes next has to be built again. We shouldn’t get carried away, but stay balanced. We only need to focus on earning points.”
