His goal, three minutes after coming on, decided the match against Lecce, giving Milan three crucial points last night. As highlighted by the specialized portal Opta Paolo, Niclas Füllkrug became the third German player in Milan’s history to score in Serie A, after Oliver Bierhoff (36 league goals for the Rossoneri) and Christian Ziege (four).
Niclas Fullkrug, Milan-Lecce MVP with his match-winning header, spoke to TeleLombardia in the mixed zone. Here’s what he said:
What an evening was that?
“A great evening. It was important to win today. We were playing last and the other teams had already won, so there was a bit of pressure. But we won. We played for the result, attacked well, but didn’t manage to score. Then, after I came on, we finally scored. Even before, we had several chances to break the deadlock… but I think we did well. It’s not easy to play against Serie A teams; they have good defensive phases. We’re happy to have won, and scoring makes the night perfect.”
What about your toe? Fullkrug answered:
“It’s no secret, it’s a broken toe. I just have to manage the pain and the situation. I’m German (laughs). We’re tough; we can handle the pain. I can manage it, and I don’t want to miss a single game with Milan.”
Do you believe in the Scudetto?
“I believe in winning every match. I believe we have a chance against every opponent. Winning many games increases our chances of a good result by the end of the season. But we focus on one match at a time, one week at a time. Every game has its challenges. Today (yesterday) we faced a team that set up low to defend, but in the end we still won 1-0. It’s a good result for us, but there’s always something to work on; we could have won 2-0 or 3-0. We have to make that possible.”
Are you already thinking about your possible future at Milan?
“It’s hard to say after just a few weeks, but I’ve already developed a good feeling with this club. I love being here, I love wearing this shirt, and I try to show the fans and my teammates that I’m happy and grateful to be here. We’ll see (smiles).”
