In the Eternal City, Luka Modric reminded everyone why football has long placed him on the throne. At 40, the Croatian played a match at the Olimpico marked by sacrifice, running, and composure, becoming the oldest player with at least three assists in the five major European leagues currently in progress. Not only that: he is only the second, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2021/22, to provide two assists in a Serie A season after turning 40. And the tally may not be finished.
Roma-Milan, between endurance and intelligence
The match was tough, especially mentally. Modric himself admitted honestly: "We started well, then Roma dominated, and Maignan saved us." In the first 45 minutes, the Giallorossi pushed hard, filling Milan’s penalty area with balls and continuously seeking midfielders’ runs. Amid that chaos, though, he was always there. Modric anticipated many situations, clearing the area and positioning himself at the right moment. Without his presence, the result could have been very different.
Awareness and hunger for victory
In the second half, Milan improved slightly, creating chances and only paying the price for an unlucky penalty. Modric, however, looks ahead with clarity: the title is difficult, Inter is ahead, but the positive streak continues. This is the strength of the Croatian: reading the match, and the season, with the same intelligence he uses to control the pitch. Class, mind, and quality: for someone like him, time remains a detail.
