Today’s edition of *Il Giornale* runs the following headline this morning:
"Calabria, longing for Milan. But his closeness to Maldini…”
The newspaper explains that Davide Calabria misses Serie A and, for this reason, would like to leave Panathinaikos to return to playing in Italy. Complicating the deal, however, is his salary of two million euros net per season. 'Il Giornale' then writes: “A player like him would have been useful to Allegri in place of the disappointing Athekame, but a déjà vu with the Devil is unlikely. It is whispered, in fact, that the former Milan No. 2 was too close to Paolo Maldini compared to the current management…”
Interviewed in mid-December by 'Rivista Undici', Calabria spoke as follows about his departure from Milan:
“In life everything comes to an end, so sooner or later it was bound to happen. Of course, I always hoped it would be later rather than sooner. I am extremely proud to have been part of Milan for so many years, between the youth teams and the first team. It is something very few people can say they have done, especially growing up in the youth sector, making your debut, staying in the first team, becoming captain and winning trophies. Teammates, coaches, directors and ownership changed, but I stayed for a long time and played regularly. I have no regrets. I am proud of it"
As a fan, playing for Milan was my dream and I achieved it. I would never have imagined becoming its captain. We lifted trophies. I joined a Milan that was not what the club had been used to being, and I left a team that was fighting for the Scudetto and cups, even if I think one final piece was missing to be competitive in the Champions League. I repeat: everything comes to an end. Then it ended the way it ended, it happened. There were things that hurt everyone a bit, born in a bad season due to certain factors. I think I paid the highest price, maybe I was too attached to Milan and some things were hard for me to accept. Those months were heavy.
Eventually, the discomfort that had built up came out and the decision was made to part ways. It had become a heavy situation, we had to do something. It was never my intention to leave Milan. What happened, you all know, even if no one says it," as relayed via Milannews.it
