Against Bologna, we finally saw a version of Youssouf Fofana that could be very useful for Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan between now and the end of the season.
Fofana: a season of ups and downs
So far, this year has been full of highs and lows for the French midfielder, who started out as an undisputed starter in the midfield set up by Allegri alongside Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modrić.
The former Monaco player seemed like an essential piece in the Tuscan coach’s tactical system: not perfect in front of goal or in the final pass, but full of energy, with strong ball-winning skills and excellent defensive coverage, writes MilanPress.
After a good start, however, the performances of the number 29, also held back by a minor muscle issue, began to fluctuate a bit too much: very poor against Genoa, so much so that he was taken off at halftime, decent off the bench against Fiorentina and in 70 minutes against Como, then two matches entirely spent on the bench against Lecce and Roma.
A revival against Bologna? This is how he can be decisive
On Tuesday evening against Bologna, however, Fofana finally returned to form: 90 minutes of great commitment and discipline that should earn him back a starting spot and give Milan an extremely useful midfielder.
Max Allegri played a very important role in the Frenchman’s resurgence, managing a difficult period for the player very well. He kept him out of the spotlight for a few weeks to help him return to peak condition, especially mentally.
At the Dall’Ara, in fact, the player not only performed well but also looked more relaxed: very attentive defensively and composed on the ball; even in difficult situations, he handled everything calmly.
