Massimiliano Allegri spoke to DAZN at the end of Pisa–Milan 1–2. Here are the Rossoneri coach’s statements.
In the first half you asked Loftus to get into the box and he scored; in the second half you said the team needed to show character, and then Modrić scored…
"It wasn’t easy tonight. Pisa SC are an awkward team to face. In the first half we took some risks. They seem to wait for you, pull you out of the game, and then hit you on the counterattack. Even at 1–1 we switched off on one of their free kicks. Let’s take the three points. The boys did well. But we absolutely have to improve from this match. We’ve only played two games in 15 days, and that wasn’t easy either."
You took over a Milan side that was eighth; now you’re on a run of 23 consecutive positive results. Did you expect a team with this mentality?
“I can’t say anything about last year, and it wouldn’t be right to. I can only say this team has important technical quality. Sometimes we slow down a little; we need to take another step forward because this group has extraordinary ability. The players know they’ve done a lot so far. But the league can change in a week. Tonight wasn’t easy, it was our sixth away game in the last nine. Now, in the last 14 matches, we’ll have eight at home and six away.”
Tell us more about Luka Modrić:
“What is there to say? He’s an extraordinary player. Beyond his technical qualities, which are wonderful, he went and took this win himself in the end. It was a mix of technique and personality. We all have to learn from him, he has incredible humility. We’re happy to have him. The younger players need to make the most of this period training and working alongside him.”
How are Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leão? And Niclas Füllkrug?
“Penalties can be missed… It was an important moment, we could have gone 2–0 up, but it happens. Pulisic came on very well, Leão too, and it’s normal that they need to improve their condition. They’re solutions that are very important even during the match.”
Tomorrow, is it better if Juventus FC or Inter Milan drop points? Allegri said:
“The important thing is that we got our three points. We’re on 53 now, one win closer to our objective. Now we’ll make up the game against Como 1907 and then we’ll see.”
