Massimiliano Allegri’s thoughts after the hard-fought 1–2 win away at Pisa can be summed up like this: pleased with the victory and the three points earned, but less satisfied with his team’s performance, especially in the first half, which ended with them in the lead but only after considerable effort.
The coach particularly disliked the fact that Ruben Loftus-Cheek, instead of playing as a true center-forward and stretching the opposing team, kept dropping too deep, which left Christopher Nkunku isolated up front. That is why he chose to take the Frenchman off at halftime and bring on a real striker like Niclas Füllkrug, as pointed out by Milan News.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, there were other aspects that Allegri did not like. After the match, while reviewing the performance with the group, the Milan coach explained that the game should have been put to bed earlier and that the team should have controlled the tempo more. He also reproached his players for not being clinical enough in front of goal, which kept the contest open until the very end. With the decisive phase of the championship approaching, such mistakes are not acceptable.
