Zieliński’s stoppage-time goal against Juventus, which allowed Inter to move back to +8 over AC Milan (with one game more played), certainly was not the outcome that the Rossoneri supporters were looking for. However, they still have fresh in their minds what Luka Modrić did on Friday in Pisa: in fact, after the hosts side equalized, the Croatian champion took the team by the hand and dragged them toward victory. His goal in the 85th minute was strongly driven by the former Real Madrid star, who once again showed everyone what it means to have a winning mentality.

This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper, which also revealed a wonderful behind-the-scenes moment that took place after the match: when he returned to the dressing room following his pitch-side interview, Modrić was welcomed with applause from his teammates, who embraced him just as they had after the winning goal. With that strike, the Croatian set yet another record in his career, becoming the oldest scorer in the history of Serie A to score from open play.

Milan must hold on tightly to a champion like him, and for this reason the club’s management hopes he can extend his contract for another year, as it expires at the end of this season. An option for renewal already exists and includes a higher salary (around €4.5 million net) if the team qualifies for the Champions League. The final decision about his future will rest solely with Modrić, who will make his choice before leaving to play in the FIFA World Cup with Croatia.
