Less than a month after his last visit, Gerry Cardinale was back at Milanello yesterday, where he had already been on January 21. The presence of the head of RedBird, the club’s owner since the summer of 2022, is very important and, as Corriere della Sera explained this morning, it reflects a path of continuity and stability, consistent with the central role that Milan holds in the ownership’s strategic vision.
The American executive spoke at length with Massimiliano Allegri and, of course, greeted the entire team, spending extra time in particular with Mike Maignan, whom he congratulated on his recent contract renewal with the club. Cardinale wanted to give a lift to the entire Rossoneri environment for this final stretch of the season, which Milan fans hope will be full of satisfaction: qualifying for the next Champions League remains the main objective, but the top of the table is not that far away, so the dream of the league title has not yet been set aside.
To stay in the race for the title, however, it will be crucial to win Wednesday night’s rescheduled match against Como and close the gap to five points behind Inter. It won’t be easy against Cesc Fàbregas’s side, who are eager for revenge after their defeat a few weeks ago against Allegri’s result-focused team. AC Milan will have to do without Adrien Rabiot, one of the squad’s driving forces this season, who is suspended after the red card he received on Friday against Pisa. Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic are not yet at their best, but they will be available.
