On La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Capello, former AC Milan coach, commented on what happened in Inter-Juventus:
"It was the weekend of Inter-Juventus and the controversies, so there is no way to start anywhere else. To say that the match would have been different if referee La Penna had made the correct decision on the Kalulu-Bastoni incident, without a red card for the French player, but instead sending off the Inter player, is far too obvious. Inter would have been down to ten men, not Juventus. When VAR can finally intervene on second yellow cards, I hope starting from the World Cup, errors like this will be eliminated. Today, however, there is little that can be done."
Capello added:
"Two things struck me in particular about the incident at San Siro. First: a player like Bastoni, of international level and a key figure for our national team, cannot and above all should not behave this way. It was very unpleasant for everyone who loves football to see him deceive the referee with an obvious dive, especially while already on a yellow card, risking a second booking himself. Second: I know Chivu very well, as he was my player at Roma, but his words after the match deeply disappointed me. The Inter coach was not consistent with what he had said the day before and ultimately gave the impression of justifying what happened. More than his words, however, his actions matter. Chivu substituted Bastoni at halftime because he knew exactly that he would have been at risk if he stayed on the field after the poor action that earned Kalulu a red card. I would have expected statements of a very different tone, especially after a victory."
