Complicated days for Milan, who now find themselves ten points behind Inter after poor performances against Como and Parma. There have also been several refereeing mistakes, because when everything seems to go against you, again and again, it is only fair to mention them. Not as an excuse, of course, but it is clear that some reckless decisions have affected the Rossoneri’s path. In the end the pitch always delivers the verdict, that is true, yet with more balanced and logical calls, a few matches might have turned out differently.
Now, however, is not the time for self pity. Massimiliano Allegri must guide everyone back on track. Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport portrays Allegri as a psychologist, for what he needs to instill in his squad during such a delicate moment. It is not the first time that Max has faced a situation like this.
The coach from Livorno has already gone through a similar experience. After an outstanding first half of the 2023 to 2024 season, his Juventus were beaten by Inter following a home draw against Empoli, then a home defeat to Udinese and an away draw in Verona. From that point on, a sharp drop in the standings began. The Bianconeri had believed in winning the Scudetto, then they collapsed.
At Milanello they want to avoid all that, because there is still a goal to reach, one that Allegri has always stated clearly: qualification for the next Champions League.
And once again the pitch will have the final say. It starts as early as Sunday, when Milan visit Cremonese, the only team to defeat the Rossoneri before Parma managed the same 24 matches later, at the Zini. Then come two major clashes: the derby against Inter on the weekend of March 8, and an away trip to Rome to face Lazio seven days later. Three matches that cannot be missed, three games that could mark the final turning point in pursuit of what has always been the declared objective. The past few days have been difficult, but Allegri knows how to lift the Diavolo back up.
