Massimo Ambrosini, former AC Milan player, spoke to DAZN about Rafael Leao as follows:
“I think the anger he shows when he comes off should be shown when he’s on the pitch. He always gives the impression that he lacks that competitive edge. But this anger has to come out during the match, in one way or another. By the 34th minute he had touched the ball four times, one of them with his head. The feeling is that, both by nature and by his characteristics, he’s a player you have to try to keep switched on. On his own, he doesn’t switch on much."
Ambrosini added:
"As a center-forward, he takes many more breaks than he does when playing out wide. Tonight, for example, Daniel Maldini played as the striker, he’s still learning the role, doing work that Rafa Leao will never be able to do in that way with his back to goal. Today I wouldn’t have taken him off."
"Milan switched from a 3-5-2 in the second half to a 4-3-3, with Pulisic wide and Leao up front. And even there… I would have kept him out wide. Then 4-2-3-1, and he’s off… As a center-forward, he’s wasted.”
