AC Milan are moving along two parallel paths that, in a few months, will come together. If the latest weekend in Serie A has given the Rossoneri the belief that they can mount a comeback against Inter Milan, something that seemed impossible just weeks ago, on the other hand, the club’s management is already taking its first steps toward the future.
This is reported in today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, which confirms that the top target for the future midfield is Leon Goretzka.

This is not a new name; in fact, the Bayern Munich midfielder had already been linked with Milan back in January. Then came the official announcement from the Bavarian club regarding the player’s departure in June. Milan have already made their move and are trying to get ahead of the competition.
Goretzka is highly rated in Italy by Milan, but the Rossoneri are not alone in the race. Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested, while abroad Atlético Madrid and Arsenal are the main rivals. The midfielder fits perfectly the profile of the player the coach wants to lead a title-challenging campaign, a player capable of raising the level in midfield. Milan will need to prepare a convincing financial offer, as Goretzka is aiming for a high salary after earning a substantial €9 million plus bonuses at Bayern in recent years. An offer of around €6-7 million plus a signing bonus would likely be required to convince him.
Adding a piece like Goretzka to the Rossoneri midfield would be significant. Alongside Adrien Rabiot and, hopefully, Luka Modrić, Massimiliano Allegri would have a highly competitive midfield unit, strong enough to compete both in Serie A and in Europe. Igli Tare will need to act early to beat the competition; planning ahead could bring major benefits. There will also be work to do in defense and attack, of course, but adding a player of experience and quality in midfield could be the extra finishing touch for a Milan side eager to play a leading role in the future.
