As previously reported, Napoli waited for Romelu Lukaku’s return to Castel Volturno. Despite the ultimatum, the Italian champions resumed training ahead of the Milan match without the Belgian: the club, in an official statement, referred to the disciplinary consequences (including possible exclusion from the squad) reserved for the number 9.
Here's Napoli's statement:
“SSC Napoli can confirm that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call to return to training. The club reserves the right to consider taking the appropriate disciplinary action, as well as to determine whether the player will continue to train with the team for an indefinite period.”
