AC Milan resumes training today ahead of the big Easter Monday clash in Naples, following the three-plus days of rest granted by Massimiliano Allegri. The coach is waiting for the return of the various international players, who will be back at Milanello between today and Friday, but in the meantime the Rossoneri training ground has not been empty. Yesterday, Gabbia, Gimenez and Füllkrug were seen working out.
The defender had also carried out personalised training in Carnago the day before yesterday, in an effort to speed up his recovery following groin hernia surgery. His recovery plan is progressing well, but at the moment it is difficult to think of him being called up for Monday evening’s match at the Maradona stadium, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition.
On AC Milan's two strikers Gimenez and Fullkrug:
It is clear both are eager to be ready when the time comes to give meaning to the season. Gimenez returned to the field against Torino after four and a half months out, while the German must regain his best form after a toe injury that had prevented him from training properly.
Today, all eyes are particularly on Leao, who returns to Milan after receiving treatment and completing his work in Portugal over the past few days. Rafael will be assessed and monitored by the Rossoneri medical staff, and the key word is strict caution: he will only be called up for Naples if the groin pain is truly resolved. The schedule includes afternoon sessions except on Saturday, when the team will train in the morning.
