Two weeks ago, a transfer market summit took place involving Giorgio Furlani, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Igli Tare, and Massimiliano Allegri, during which several ideas were discussed with a view to next season. The aim will be to deepen the squad and also raise the overall quality of the AC Milan side, especially with a return to the UEFA Champions League looking increasingly likely. Among the club’s needs, for instance, is the signing of a top-level right-sided central midfielder, and at present the name most favoured by the ex Juventus coach is Leon Goretzka, the 31-year-old midfielder whose contract with Bayern Munich is nearing its expiry.
Milan intensify contacts:
This was reported this morning by Tuttosport, which explains that, following that transfer meeting, the Italian club has intensified contacts with the agency representing the German player to further assess the feasibility of the deal. The transfer itself would be on a free (with no transfer fee), but could prove costly in terms of wages. Goretzka is highly appreciated by Allegri, who fully understands the value of adding a player with his quality, experience, and personality to Milan. As a result, discussions with his agents are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Goretzka with Rabiot and Modric:
Allegri needs a stronger squad to compete for the league title and to perform well in the Champions League, and the Rossoneri management will try to meet his demands. The German is seen as the ideal piece to complete a three-man midfield alongside Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modrić, who is expected to extend his stay at Milan for another year. However, attention must be paid to the strong competition for the Bayern midfielder, as several top clubs have shown interest and may face fewer difficulties than Milan in meeting the financial demands of both the player and his entourage.
