AC Milan need to start looking ahead to the Rossoneri to come. With the title race now effectively out of reach, their immediate priority is securing Champions League qualification before fully turning their attention to planning for next season. The main directive (the objective they simply cannot afford to miss) is signing a new centre-forward.

The Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reports this morning that Milan’s recent investments have not paid off. Starting with their last two major multimillion-euro signings: Christopher Nkunku (€38 million) and Santiago Giménez (just over €32 million). Their contributions have been inconsistent, and their goal returns have certainly fallen short of expectations. Both are expected to leave, as is Niclas Füllkrug. Signed for a minimal fee in January from West Ham, his recent performances have failed to impress, and Milan will most likely not pay the €5 million needed to make his move permanent from the English club.
The club’s main target, therefore, will be a new central striker. Moise Kean and Dušan Vlahović are options that have been explored, but both are difficult targets because of transfer costs and personal contract demands. Robert Lewandowski represents an intriguing possibility, although Barcelona could soon offer him a one-year contract extension, as relayed via Milan News.
In recent hours, other names have emerged, more realistic options currently noted down by Tare and Furlani. Milan are interested in Nicolas Jackson, the Senegalese forward who, after a year at Bayern Munich, will return to Chelsea before potentially moving on to a destination more to his liking. Milan could negotiate a loan deal with an option to buy for a significant fee.
Speaking of major figures, Mateo Retegui must also be mentioned. He is currently being kept in Saudi Arabia by a staggering €16 million salary. Darwin Núñez, formerly of Liverpool, is also playing in Saudi Arabia and is another possible option for the Rossoneri, although Juventus are also competing for him.
Clearly, it is still far too early and every rumour may only last for a short time, but Milan must move in advance because they no longer have any margin for error. Allegri wants a genuine centre-forward, a proven goalscorer, not a gamble. Milan need someone who can score, and do it immediately.
