Enzo Bucchioni, in his editorial on tuttomercatoweb.com, commented on the race for the Champions League places as follows:
“Milan and Juventus have to thank the Nerazzurri’s feat, obviously in terms of the Champions League. The disastrous defeat to Udinese has been softened; now, against Verona, the Rossoneri can start again. However, Allegri’s glaring mistakes remain (why change the formation now, and on top of that use Leao as a centre-forward?), as well as the situation involving the Portuguese player, which will have to be resolved one way or another at the end of the season. A transfer is looming."
"Juventus made the most of their win over Atalanta, where for the first time we saw the cynicism and the ability to grind out a result regardless, qualities that Spalletti had not yet managed to instil in this team. It’s a crucial step forward in terms of character development."
"I’ll finish with Roma. Ranieri’s blunt attack on Gasperini, unusual for someone as diplomatic as the former manager, had no consequences, but the Friedkins are wrong not to intervene. Roma still hope for a Champions League spot, and a disruptive issue like this in the dressing room should have been defused immediately by sacking Ranieri at once to back the manager. There is no other way if they want to keep hoping, unless there are genuine doubts about Gasperini’s work and, above all, his character, in which case they may be prepared to start all over again.”
