In the first half, Milan dominated possession and overall play, but the best chance fell to Atalanta in the 19th minute: Simonetto collected a rebound from Bouyer inside the box and struck a left-footed diagonal shot, clipping the post. In the 33rd minute, Renna’s side threatened with Scotti who, after a one-two with Mancioppi, shot from around the penalty spot but was denied by an excellent save from Anelli.
In the second half, the tempo gradually dropped. The main moments to note were two Milan counter-attacks in the 53rd and 74th minutes: in the first, Domnitei was inaccurate, while in the second Scotti once again found Anelli ready.
