Today's edition of the newspaper La Repubblica acknowledges the merits of the Portuguese coach, who is said to have made three steps back that "demonstrated wisdom" and allowed the (re)birth of his Rossoneri.

Fonseca: Three steps back; a decision that turned fruitful
The first step back involves the presence of players from the 2022 championship-winning squad in the starting eleven, which was almost entirely absent against Lazio at the Olimpico (only Maignan played) and returned to five players against Lecce (Maignan, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Leao).
The second step is the confirmation of the lineup seen in the derby, a more compact formation with Morata playing behind Abraham and Pulisic-Leao as a more solid defensive pair alongside Fofana and Reijnders.
The third was the ability to bring back into the fold the Theo Hernandez-Leao duo, who were excluded against Lazio.
