In his usual editorial on Sportitalia, journalist Alfredo Pedullà commented on Milan's performance against Bayer Leverkusen last night. These were his statements, as relayed via Milannews.it:
"The regret is on Milan, which loses against a Bayer that was not extraordinary. Fonseca saw a great Milan, we saw a good reaction, half an hour in the second half, after conceding Boniface's goal at the start of the second half and after a first half where Bayer was aggressive and Maignan was the best player on the field. Milan has an issue with their approach, an issue with defensive organization, and the problem that they need to take a hit before reacting: perhaps they didn't have the adrenaline they had in the derby."
He continued to talk about Milan:
"Playing well for half an hour isn't enough; Fonseca needs to work on these details that are not insignificant, because Milan has great technical potential, and certainly, on a night like the one in Germany, the subpar performances of too many individuals weighed heavily. For instance, Tomori, Leao, Loftus-Cheek, and the lack of defensive organization in the first half, where Gabbia stood out and highlighted some important qualities compared to the others. He stood out in terms of personal performance. Fofana did well, Abraham was ineffective, then at a certain point Milan woke up because they were behind and became more aggressive towards the end: Theo Hernandez hit the crossbar, they claimed a penalty that could have been given for Loftus-Cheek, but overall the performance was insufficient."
