Gazzetta: Despite victory vs Slovan Bratislava, Milan struggled in defence

La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper in today's edition, commented on AC Milan's Champions League win against Slovan Bratislava.

As the source writes, it certainly cannot be said that Milan cruised to victory yesterday afternoon in Bratislava. On the contrary, a qualitatively inferior but slightly organised Slovan caused them serious difficulties, keeping the match alive until the final whistle.

The Slovaks had scored just 2 goals in four matches prior to yesterday, a statistic that speaks volumes. It was a game where the Rossoneri played in bursts and never gave the impression of doing what was expected: dominating the field against the tournament’s bottom team. Milan was propelled more by individual brilliance (Abraham and Fofana's assists or Leao's plays) or opponent mistakes (Strelec's back pass) than by collective superiority. Nonetheless, the three points came through: a third consecutive win, nine points on the table, and with upcoming matches against Red Star, Girona, and Dinamo Zagreb, Milan must aim to replicate this streak and secure direct access to the Round of 16.

On paper, the next three matches should result in three wins for the Rossoneri, but predicting the Rossoneri’s performances this season has become virtually impossible. This is largely due to the total lack of balance in their defensive phase.

Even yesterday, Milan’s backline struggled significantly against a team that had only scored two goals in their previous four games. The space left for the Slovaks on their first goal was inexplicable, as was the difficulty experienced in the first half.
