The Corriere dello Sport in today's edition has provided an update on the situation at Milan regarding who could be the new coach replacing Sérgio Conceição in the 2025-2026 season. The options of Antonio Conte, Massimiliano Allegri, and Roberto De Zerbi face various obstacles and impediments, while the chances of Cesc Fàbregas are on the rise.

The Spaniard, born in 1987, currently the coach of Como—the revelation of the Serie A season—is, according to the source, the preferred choice of Giorgio Furlani and the Rossoneri management. Why? Fàbregas is liked for his style of play, his footballing philosophy, his status, and his broad recognition on a global level.

The choice of Milan’s new coach has, of course, not yet been made. But everything seems to point to Fàbregas of Como, where the former midfielder of Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Monaco, and the Spanish national team arrived in 2022. So convinced of the project, he even invested in the club, acquiring a small stake in its ownership.

Fàbregas, at Como, has been a player (albeit briefly), is now a shareholder, and also serves as the coach—his relationship with the club, therefore, goes beyond the purely sporting and technical aspect. This, according to the newspaper, will be the biggest obstacle for Furlani.

Discussions between Milan and Fàbregas, therefore, cannot revolve solely around footballing matters. For Cesc to become a Rossonero, he would first have to sell his shares in Como, thus giving up his investment and any related earnings. He cannot coach Milan, or any other club, unless he ceases to be a shareholder of the Larian club.

But what does Cesc Fàbregas think?

At the moment, according to Corriere dello Sport he is not entirely convinced about joining Milan—or, more precisely, he is not entirely convinced about leaving Como now. Both because of the issue of his shares and due to doubts about whether such a big leap in level is truly the right move, just a year after his arrival in Serie A as a coach, as relayed via PianetaMilan.it.

On the other hand, there is also the possibility and ambition of joining a historic club. Both Milan and Fàbregas will revisit the situation in the coming weeks. The Rossoneri's preference is clear, but so are the obstacles to making it happen. We will see what unfolds in the days to come.
