Capello: “The Rossoneri investing in Italian players? They must be Milan-worthy”

Milan is ready to change its vision and modus operandi: starting next summer, from the selection of the sporting director and the coach, a more Italian team and club are expected. One of the biggest advocates of this vision is former Rossoneri coach Fabio Capello, who, as often happens, was interviewed this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport and focused precisely on the theme of Italian identity and its importance even for a top-level club:

"If Milan decides to invest in Italian profiles, they must, first and foremost, be Milan-worthy. Quality always makes the difference. But let’s put it this way: if the quality is equal, I would always go for an Italian."

Capello continued:

"My Milan? The defense was entirely Italian. I always say this: we built a magnificent house because we had an incredible foundation. Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Tassotti, Filippo Galli—all Italians, almost all products of the youth academy. And then Albertini, Donadoni, Massaro... We had Ballon d’Or winners, but the core was deeply Italian. And the Italians were a point of reference for everyone—for the newcomers, for the foreign players who joined the group after each transfer window, and, of course, for me on the bench."
