After several rather complicated weeks in which he had fallen behind in Sergio Conceição’s pecking order, Santiago Gimenez seems to have finally found the right path again. He hasn’t yet regained the starting shirt at Milan, but the goal against Venezia and the assist against Genoa for Rafael Leao’s goal are two important signals that the Mexican has sent to the Portuguese coach. And tomorrow against Bologna, in the advance fixture of the 36th matchday of Serie A, the former Feyenoord player will, in all likelihood, have a great chance from the first minute.

Difficulties for Santiago Gimenez at Milanello?
This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which explains that Gimenez arrived at Milan in January and the start of his adventure with the Rossoneri was quite positive, with an assist on his debut against Roma in the Coppa Italia, a goal in his Serie A debut at Empoli, and then goals at San Siro against Verona and Feyenoord in the Champions League. But then the Mexican got lost in the difficulties that affected the whole team after elimination from Europe, and, also due to some physical problems, he has always started from the bench over the past month. There are even some who questioned the nearly 30-million-euro investment that the Diavolo made in January to bring him to Milanello, where, however, the trust in him has never been lacking and is now clearly growing compared to recent weeks.
The starting spot...
After all, Serie A is not the Eredivisie, and so, as Conceição has often explained, a period of adaptation is necessary for everyone. In recent weeks, Gimenez has worked hard to improve his physical condition, and gradually the results are becoming visible. Tomorrow, in the league match against Bologna, Santi will probably have a great opportunity from the first minute—and who knows if a superb performance might not relaunch his candidacy also for the Coppa Italia final, again against the Rossoblù, on May 14 in Rome.
