It had been known for several days already, but finally, in the late afternoon today, it became official: Igli Tare is the new sporting director of Milan. The Albanian executive, who had been inactive for two years after a very long stint with Lazio, had signed in recent days and today spent his first working day at Casa Milan. Here is how it went, how the club's executive structure will be reshaped, and the next steps for the new sporting director.

Already at work
Igli Tare didn’t want to waste any time and, while waiting for a more structured interview, he already showed his willingness to roll up his sleeves through the words published in the official statement: “The club knows my great determination and my desire to do well by putting all my experience at the service of a great Club whose absolute objective is to return to being a protagonist in Italy and in Europe.” These are the hunger and goals of the new sporting director. However, as always, it will be the results that determine the value of his work. Today, Tare immediately got to work at Casa Milan, where he arrived around 4:00 PM, taking possession of his new office. There were two notable meetings. The first with Florent Ghisolfi, his counterpart at Roma, during which they discussed the future of Alexis Saelemaekers. The Giallorossi want to keep him: more meetings will follow in the coming days. The second with agent Beppe Riso: several Rossoneri players were on the table, particularly Francesco Camarda.
Role and head coach
Now that the official announcement has been made, and after a season in which the definition of roles in the management was anything but clear, the question is legitimate:
How will the sporting area change with the arrival of Tare?
The Albanian executive will take charge of decisions regarding the transfer market and the management of Milanello, with Giorgio Furlani as the ultimate point of reference and an active participant in the financial negotiation phase of players to be acquired. Working alongside Tare will be Geoffrey Moncada, who will retain his role as technical director.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, will see his scope of action limited and will more clearly embody the role of advisor for which he was hired by RedBird. That said, Tare’s first move must be the selection of the head coach. The Rossoneri are undeniably late: Conte and Allegri seem out of the picture, Italiano is leaning toward renewing with Bologna, and even a profile like De Zerbi appears intent on staying in Marseille.
The names whose stock has risen in the past few hours are Thiago Motta and Roberto Mancini. The Maurizio Sarri track is unlikely, as Tare did not part on good terms with him during their time at Lazio. Whoever the choice is, it must be made quickly and decisively.
