Mike Maignan’s future is still entirely to be deciphered. The Rossoneri goalkeeper was very close to leaving the club during the special transfer window held in the first ten days of June.
The Milan captain, whose contract expires in 2026 and who has had no renewal offer on the table since January—when an agreement was practically in place—had accepted Chelsea’s advances, but the English club was ultimately unable to find common ground in negotiations with the Rossoneri.
Mike Maignan, therefore, remains at Milan for now, as La Gazzetta dello Sport also reminded this morning with the headline:
“Maignan meanwhile stays.”
Right after, however, the newspaper opens the door to the possibility of a contract extension:
"Then the renewal."
In the subheading, they try to broaden the discussion and explain the logic behind this scenario:
“The club said no to Chelsea’s offer. Allegri, who rates him highly, could convince him to extend.”
Since his appointment, Max Allegri has declared his intention to keep Maignan: now his role could prove crucial, with Tare and Furlani believing that, if the season were to take a positive turn, talks with the Frenchman’s entourage for a renewal could be resumed starting in September.
