Atlético Madrid confirms the signing of Marc Pubill, although the medical examinations and the official contract signature are still pending — both now considered mere formalities. The Spanish club completed a lightning-fast deal, overtaking Wolverhampton, who believed — after Milan had pulled out — that they had secured the player’s services.
Atlético Madrid’s official statement reads:
"Atlético de Madrid and UD Almería have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marc Pubill to our club pending that he passes his medical examination and signs his new contract. The 22-year-old full-back from Terrassa plays for the Spain U21 side, with which he competed in the recent European Championship of the category, playing all four games and scoring a goal against Slovakia. Last summer he was part of the Spanish Olympic team led by Red & White legend Santi Denia – winning the gold medal in Paris. He played in five of the six games of the tournament, including the final against France, and netted a goal in the victory over Uzbekistan (2-1). Formed in Club Gimnàstic Manresa’s academy, Pubill joined Levante UD as a youth player, making his first team debut on 20 December 2021, with whom he played 11 games in the top flight before being transferred to UD Almería in 2023, where he has played 63 games, scored two goals and providing eight assists. With the arrival of Marc Pubill, our first team will have the starting right-back of the Spain U21 national team and the starting left-back of the Italy U21 side, Matteo Ruggeri. Moreover, we also have three Olympic champions in our team: Álex Baena, Pablo Barrios and Marc Pubill."
