Luca Bianchin, journalist, expressed himself as follows in La Gazzetta dello Sport regarding the insights drawn from the friendly between Milan and Perth Glory, which the Rossoneri won 9-0 thanks to goals from Filippo Terracciano, Noah Okafor (brace), 2008-born Christian Comotto (penalty), Samuel Chukwueze, Rafael Leao (brace), Samuele Ricci, and Yunus Musah:
“It was already clear on the eve of the match that Milan–Perth Glory would be a friendly more important for what it suggested between the lines than for the scoreline on the board. Milan won with a scoreline much wider than expected (9–0), and the ease of the 90 minutes took away some of the meaning from any analysis. However, some indications remain, and they are clear.
Milan, which had been a team focused on defending and counter-attacking in the first two matches, changed style: it became a team that plays in a 4-3-3 formation and holds onto the ball. A back four, possession-based play, two offensive wingers like Chukwueze and Jimenez, a pure center-forward like Okafor. It went well but, more than the result, what matters is the idea: Allegri confirmed that he sees the possibility of playing in at least two very different formation modules. That will happen during the season too: what’s certain is the starting spot for some players (Leao, but also Loftus-Cheek or Tomori), not the exact area of the pitch where they’ll spend the 90 minutes.”
