Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto provided the following updates on Milan’s transfer market, particularly regarding the search for a new right-back:
“We have confirmation of the name revealed in recent hours by La Gazzetta dello Sport for the role of Milan’s right-back. As we reported in recent days, the Rossoneri’s idea for this position has been changing: Doué is the player they like the most, but as of now, he is out of reach due to economic reasons, Strasbourg continue to ask for €30 million, and also due to relations, since the French club is owned by Chelsea’s group, and their relationship with Milan is currently somewhat cold. As a result, Milan has decided to change strategy and look for new young right-back profiles who are more financially accessible."
Moretto added:
"And among these names is Zachary Athekame, a right-back born in 2004 who plays for Young Boys and is under contract until 2029. His short career has taken place entirely in Switzerland, but he has already played in the Champions League, facing two Italian teams: Inter and Atalanta. Athekame is highly appreciated and Milan is evaluating him internally. But he is not the only name on Milan’s list, there are other young profiles like him that the club wants to develop. We’ll see if Milan decides to make a concrete offer to Young Boys in the coming days, but I can confirm that Athekame is a player who is very much liked at Casa Milan.”
