It seemed everything was done for Mattia Liberali's move to Catanzaro on a free transfer with 50% on resale, but evidently that’s not the case. Matteo Moretto, in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, provides several details about the situation. These are his words:
"Despite the transfer of Liberali on a permanent deal to Catanzaro being considered done, it wasn’t so, today the final confirmation arrived. The situation is currently blocked, frozen. It wasn’t a done deal. It was certainly a deal close to completion, but Milan never gave the go-ahead to proceed under those terms, in terms of the formula and financial side."
Moretto continued to discuss Liberali's situation:
"I want to add a detail: Milan does not want to let Liberali leave today on a free transfer, with just a percentage on a future resale. Milan is exploring two paths. The first, complicated due to a series of circumstances tied to the past, to what hasn’t happened in recent months, is to renew the player’s contract. Milan never seriously approached a renewal for Liberali, whereas now they are seriously considering renewing for the player. They want to try to renew Mattia Liberali's contract, but it’s a complicated path. Not impossible, because in football nothing is impossible, but it is very, very, very complicated. The other path is a permanent transfer, but not a free one. We’ll see how this operation develops."
