Last Wednesday, June 25, Giorgio Furlani and Igli Tare met with the press to kick off the new season. On the sidelines of the event, the Rossoneri CEO, Furlani, was very clear, repeating: "There won’t be a need for a total revolution, but we’ll add some pieces to the squad to be ready for the new season."

And yet today, on the eve of the first official match of the year and just over two weeks before the transfer window closes, Milan have already completed seven new signings and are aiming for an eighth, as pointed out by Milan News.

It was already a revolution

Before even talking about the signings, which were numerous, it should be stressed that when Furlani made those remarks, Milan were already in the middle of a revolution. When you change the head coach, bringing in someone like Massimiliano Allegri, one of the most experienced managers available and the most successful in Italy, and alongside him you also appoint a new sporting director in the seasoned Igli Tare, the transformation is already underway. And there’s nothing wrong with that, given how last season went. The fans wanted a top-level coach and someone who could operate skillfully in the transfer market. In essence, they got what they wanted.

Seven AC Milan signings... Will the club add one more player?

Then came the transfer market. Today, the Rossoneri officially announced the signing of right-back Zachary Athekame. The Swiss player is the club’s seventh signing of the summer. Before him came Samuele Ricci, Pietro Terracciano, Luka Modrić, Pervis Estupiñán, Ardon Jashari, and Koni De Winter. And the Milan management already have an eighth deal lined up, a striker who will compete with Santiago Giménez.

It’s not just the number of signings, but the fact that entire areas of the squad have been renewed, that justifies the term “revolution.” Milan have overhauled half of their midfield and almost completely rebuilt their full-back options. In attack, aside from Giménez, they’ve lost much of the squad depth they previously had. In short, the Rossoneri are trying to change their skin, doing so on the foundation of a solid technical leader and a mix of experienced players and young talents with significant potential. As always, the pitch will be the ultimate judge, but so will the way the club stands by the team throughout the season.
