It was Massimiliano Allegri’s press conference ahead of Milan’s Serie A debut, scheduled for tomorrow evening at San Siro against Cremonese.
The Rossoneri coach addressed many topics, focusing in particular on his team’s midfield. Luka Modric is an undisputed phenomenon, even at 40 years old. But Allegri and his staff’s management of the Croatian’s physical condition will be decisive, as he is probably still a little behind in terms of fitness and athletic sharpness.

Another interesting subject is related to Fofana and Loftus-Cheek, Allegri’s “workhorses” in this new Milan. The key points: from Modric’s possible league debut to the new goals set for the Rossoneri midfielders.
Modric, a true champion, but his fitness must be managed...
This is how Allegri spoke about Milan’s new number 14, fresh from his debut in the Coppa Italia against Bari and ready (whether starting or not) to play his first Serie A minutes in the Rossoneri shirt:
“Today I will decide whether Luka starts. There’s no need to talk about Modric from a technical standpoint... His career speaks for itself. He plays the ball more with the outside of his foot than the inside, and very few can do that. He’s a guy with great humility. He cannot have the same physicality he had ten years ago, but together we will manage him in the best way. Physically, he is doing very well.”
Also noteworthy is the new target Allegri has set in terms of goals for Youssouf Fofana and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, players who will be fundamental to his game plan. The English midfielder, in his first season with Milan under Pioli in 2023/2024, scored 10 goals in all competitions, while last season Youssouf Fofana managed one goal and nine assists, as relayed via Milan News.
“Fofana and Loftus have quality and great physical strength: between them, they must score at least 15 goals. It’s a goal I have set, and one I care about.”
