Is Maignan's renewal with AC Milan difficult?

With the season already underway and his contract expiring in June 2026, there is very little time to reach an agreement with the player’s entourage. Maignan will also be highly sought after by teams looking for a new goalkeeper next year. In February, the parties had agreed on a three-year renewal plus an extra year at 5 million, but the club froze it after some underwhelming performances from the French goalkeeper.

Currently, Maignan, who is Milan’s captain, has shown full professionalism for this season, and there is no doubt about that, especially given his character. The club, however, could reconsider and try to reopen talks with Mike and his entourage especially since there are new figures in charge: Igli Tare and also Massimiliano Allegri. At the same time, the club management must start looking elsewhere in case no agreement is reached. The most realistic alternative currently seems to be Zion Suzuki, the Japanese goalkeeper from Parma. Young Lorenzo Torriani, who has already made his official debut with the Rossoneri, is also highly considered.
