League matches right after the international break are always tricky for everyone, even more so for a team still under construction like Milan. On Sunday night at San Siro, the Rossoneri will host Vincenzo Italiano’s tough Bologna side without Rafael Leao. AC Milan’s No. 10 has not recovered from the right calf strain and is expected to miss out on the squad list.

Nkunku is not ready
Among the few who benefited from almost two weeks of training under Massimiliano Allegri is Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has put in some work to build fitness ahead of a possible Serie A debut for Milan on Sunday against Bologna. The former Chelsea player will not start, as his condition is still far from ideal.
Only alternative
An alternative, perhaps the only one for Milan, would be to move Saelemaekers into the attacking line, taking advantage of the Belgian’s versatility, even to the point of being ready to play as a goalkeeper if needed. Alexis already proved in the last league match against Lecce that he can contribute in a more offensive role than the ones he consistently played over the past two seasons with Roma and Bologna.
Room for Gimenez
Tomorrow, both Santi Gimenez and Christian Pulisic are scheduled to return to Italy after their international friendlies. Unless there are surprises with their fitness, Milan will likely face Bologna with the unusual pairing of the Mexican striker and the U.S. captain. The former Feyenoord forward is still chasing his first Serie A goal of the season after coming close against both Cremonese and Lecce.
