If there is an obvious gap in Milan’s squad, it is the center-forward position. The Rossoneri theoretically have Santiago Gimenez, but the field has shown in the early part of the season that, despite his effort and determination, he does not have the ideal traits for Massimiliano Allegri’s system.
The ex Juventus head coach needs a striker who is physically strong and ready to battle in the penalty area. This type of player would also help in matches against smaller teams: in the final attacks against Cremonese, Pisa, or Parma, Milan lacked a central reference in the box to target passes.
Today, Corriere della Sera, in its sports section, published a piece on the January transfer market and what the top teams chasing the Scudetto might need to strengthen their squads. The newspaper writes:
"Shopping for the Scudetto. Five teams are very close at the top of the table, and they have gaps to fill."
Regarding Milan, it says: "Milan and Roma are working on acquiring a center-forward: Pellegrino for Allegri and Zirkzee for Gasperini." Mateo Pellegrino, an Argentine from Parma, is a name that has already surfaced in recent weeks in connection with Milan: he has the right qualities, but Parma would need to be convinced, and Gimenez would have to be sold.
