The day after the Coppa Italia exit, strong ratings were never going to appear in the Gazzetta dello Sport player grades for the Rossoneri.
The disappointment came from the players expected to step up and make a difference. The paper lists Rafael Leao as the worst Milan player with a 5. The comment reads, “He stays wider on the left and does not act as a centre forward. He avoids giving clear reference points, and he ends up rarely involved. His dribbles do no damage and he wastes a big chance at 0–0. This is not the Leao of the past month.”
The choice for Milan’s best player brings a small surprise. Pervis Estupiñán gets a 6.5. The justification reads, "He starts poorly with his passing and forces Pavlovic into a yellow card. Then he settles, delivers three dangerous crosses and stays sharp in defensive diagonals. A positive sign after the injury and the bench spell."
The other players judged below par along with Leao are Koni De Winter and Christopher Nkunku, both given 5. Saelemaekers and Ricci receive 5.5. Maignan does well again and earns a 6.5. “He stops a long-range shot from Castellanos and a close-range effort from Isaksen. He lacks the decisive spark on Zaccagni’s goal. Strong stop on Noslin, prevents Lazio from doubling the lead.”
Allegri receives a 6.
