Alexis Saelemaekers has certainly been one of the most proactive players of the season so far. Strongly backed by Allegri, the Belgian has established himself through his willingness to sacrifice for the team and his solid leadership qualities. When he arrived in 2020, a young and still raw Saelemaekers struggled to stand out, unlike over the past year and a half, during which Thiago Motta and Ranieri first, and Allegri later, have been able to bring out the best in his talent. Thanks to this spell, Saelemaekers is also expected to earn a place in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Saelemaekers has recorded four assists and two goals so far across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, after returning to Milan following excellent loan spells at Bologna and Roma. A guaranteed starter for Allegri on the right side of midfield, the 1999-born player has shown that he is more than capable of starting regularly for one of Serie A’s top clubs, dispelling the early doubts.
