The Italian newspaper Tuttosport ran the following headline this morning:

"Maignan signs the win... and the contract.”

If Milan managed to conquer Como’s ground yesterday, credit does not go only to Christopher Nkunku and Adrien Rabiot, the scorers of all three Milan goals, with the former Marseille midfielder netting a brace, but also to Mike Maignan.

The French goalkeeper might have done a little more on Kempf’s goal, yet afterwards he kept the Rossoneri alive with several outstanding saves. There is also excellent news on the contract front: the parties are extremely close, and the goalkeeper is set to sign a new deal until 2031 in the near future.

After the win against Como, Max Allegri spoke to DAZN and said:

"It is not a matter of tactical nuances. We started with four midfielders in the possession phase to create more passing lanes, with Fofana in front of the two mezzalas and Modric further forward. At the start we found some good passing lines. After going behind we lost our compactness, they played a lot of balls in behind with the goalkeeper and we took risks on counter-attacks and late runs against a set defence. Once we equalised, and even before that at the end of the first half, Maignan kept us on our feet. Como are a strong team that play very well. If you allow them speed, they become a problem, you have to accept suffering through their ball circulation for the sake of the result. Then we set up with three players up front, but once we found the equaliser I preferred to change. They began to make technical mistakes and left a lot of space, so I chose to return to how we started the match," as relayed via Milan News today.
