According to CalcioMercato, Turkish defender Merit Demiral was once a top target for Milan, and now the Rossoneri may be able to make another move this coming summer for the Juventus defender. Demiral has returned from injury, and today will face the squad that has been close to purchasing him on many occasions.
In the summer of 2019, Maldini and Massara had their eye on Demiral in the transfer market as a reinforcement in the defense. The Turk born in 1998 convinced the Rossoneri management with his impressive strength and other qualities. He had massive room for improvement ahead of him, and was seen as a great investment. The deal between the Rossoneri and Demial could not be completed however, as Juventus purchased the defender from Sassuolo for 18 million.
The situation has changed since then, however. Demiral is no longer seen as "untouchable" to the Bianconeri, and if a serious offer arrives, the management may have an important decision to make. The main issue at play here is the decision of 36-year-old Giorgio Chiellini. The defender will have a decision to make on whether he chooses to retire, or play for his club for another year. If the Italian does choose to stay, Demiral may have trouble cracking the rotation.
It is reasonable to suggest that Milan would be interested in the defender, but the recent attraction to loan player Fikayo Tomori could steer Milan away as they would need to pay 28 million for the English defender. With Simon Kjaer not getting any younger, and Romagnoli potentially on the move this summer, another investment in the defense may not be the worst move for Milan, for the right price. Milan, however, have made it their priority to sign Tomori on a permanent deal from Chelsea, which would not suggest much interest from the Rossoneri in the Turkish defender.
