With next season approaching, and with AC Milan expected to return to the Champions League, there was a meeting in recent days between Massimiliano Allegri and the club’s management to begin planning the summer transfer market.
One of the key issues to resolve is undoubtedly the team’s dependence on Adrien Rabiot, because with him on the pitch it’s one team, and without him it’s another. The numbers confirm this: an average of 2.38 points per game when the Frenchman is present, compared to 1.4 when he is absent, as reported by Corriere della Sera.
There are already two players in the squad who could potentially replace him, Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci, but neither is yet at Rabiot’s level and both still have a lot of development ahead of them. What’s needed is a player who is ready to perform immediately. For this reason, Allegri and sporting director Tare have already identified a shortlist of midfielders who could suit Milan.
One prominent name is Leon Goretzka, who will become a free agent at the end of the season after leaving Bayern Munich. The German could play alongside the Frenchman, but also serve as an alternative option to help manage energy between league and cup competitions.
