On the eve of the eve of Napoli–Milan, the morning at Milanello was decidedly special: thousands of fans turned up to energise the team, with the players carrying out part of their training session on the outdoor pitch of the Carnago training centre.
For the occasion, manager Massimiliano Allegri was interviewed by DAZN. These were his statements:
On the support from the fans:
“We are very pleased with the fans, especially because they won’t be with us in Naples. I believe that this year the lads have earned the respect of all the supporters through the commitment and determination with which they have played their matches. And I think that is entirely down to the players.”
How did you work during the break?
“We only started working again yesterday, because everyone finished returning yesterday. So yesterday, today, tomorrow, and then we go to Naples to play what will be a wonderful match.”
How are the forwards doing?
“They are all doing well; Loftus-Cheek is also in very good shape. Everyone is available except Gabbia, who I think will be back from Tuesday.”
What kind of Napoli do you expect?
“Napoli are a strong team; they have all their players back. It will be a great match. To come away with an important result, we will need to deliver a great team performance.”
On Italy failing to qualify for the World Cup:
“I don’t know why we didn’t go. I do know that I am very disappointed as an Italian. It’s only natural that when the national team doesn’t take part in the World Cup, it is a disappointment for all Italians, and I am very disappointed about it. From this situation, the relevant authorities must make decisions and thoroughly analyse the solutions that can help young players become good footballers.”
