At the end of Genoa–Milan 1–2, AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri spoke to Sky Sport to comment on the match. His statements are below.
Was this the most complicated week…
“It is normal to be happy, but we have not achieved anything yet: we still need three points. I must thank the players who have rediscovered organisation: we had two or three situations where we could have been more incisive. It was important to bring home the result: we need to recover energy because mentally we have expended a lot.”
How important was the presence of Cardinale, through his words and his being there?
“It is important, but I think I have always said so. In a pyramid structure: the club is above everything, then the organisation must be strong because if it is, everyone becomes stronger and better. Cardinale came to speak before the match and there was a more positive energy.”
A humble Milan, like a few weeks ago? Allegri answered:
“We made a mistake, myself first of all: there was this idea of wanting to win a match between Udinese, Sassuolo and Atalanta. Instead, the objective is a sum of points: when you think a single match solves the problem, you fall into this mistake. You can concede goals and lose matches, but throughout the season we had not done so: recently we have conceded goals with extreme ease.”
And about the future?
“For now we focus on finishing, because it seems easy but I still have three points to get. Then at the end of the season we will meet, mainly to assess the year, what we did wrong and what needs improving in the interest of the club and the team.”
