At this time last year, it really seemed that Mike Maignan's time at Milan was coming to an end. With only one year left on his contract and no longer in contact with Giorgio Furlani regarding a renewal, the Rossoneri goalkeeper appeared destined for Chelsea and was dreaming of playing in the Club World Cup. Instead, the arrival of Allegri and Tare changed everything: first convincing him to stay, and then persuading him to extend his stay at Milan by signing a five-year contract renewal in January. Now, however, things have come full circle: Mike Maignan's future is once again uncertain.

The central issue surrounding Mike Maignan's future at Milan revolves entirely around the figures of Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare. After major difficulties in negotiating a renewal, which had seemed impossible a year ago, with the goalkeeper and his representatives deeply frustrated by Giorgio Furlani's approach during negotiations, the ex Milan coach and the Albanian sporting director carried out significant persuasion work that ultimately led to Maignan signing a new contract.
Today, however, neither Allegri nor Tare is still at Milan, and the project that convinced Maignan to stay no longer appears to be a priority. In fact, according to Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri captain is concerned about the direction things are taking at Casa Milan.
Maignan leaving Milan? His agents are exploring options
The uncertainty and concern surrounding Milan's future are leading Mike Maignan himself to completely reconsider the next stage of his career. At the moment, the Frenchman is fully focused on the World Cup that he will play in North America, but his agents are already working to identify potential new destinations.
Maignan had developed a strong bond with Allegri and Tare. Their departure, the lack of a clear project as of 5 June, and the inability to play in the Champions League are the three main reasons why his representatives may consider moving the goalkeeper away from Milanello.
The World Cup could certainly boost his market value ahead of the summer transfer window, although the potential suitors may differ from those of last year. Chelsea are in the midst of a rebuilding phase, while Bayern Munich have once again renewed Manuel Neuer's contract.
