AC Milan continue to work on their future and find themselves facing a decision that is set to have a major impact on their upcoming plans. In recent weeks, the name of Ralf Rangnick has strongly emerged: the German executive and coach could become the new reference point for the club’s sporting structure.
Discussions have taken place, along with some progress. However, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former architect of the Red Bull model would have issued what amounts to an ultimatum to the Rossoneri.
Rangnick’s demands:
Rangnick is said to have set out his requirements in detail. The German would not be arriving to coach the team, but to take on the role of head of the technical department, with direct and total influence over the club’s sporting decisions. Among the conditions set are the ability to personally choose the next head coach, the power to bring trusted figures such as Spors and Vivell to Milan, particularly within the scouting department, and authority to reorganise the youth sector according to his own football philosophy.
These are significant demands that would redefine the internal balance of the club. Rangnick, in fact, wants decision-making autonomy and wide room for action to develop a long-term project, following the model of what he successfully implemented within the Red Bull football structure. Not a simple consultant, therefore, but the main figure responsible for rebuilding Milan’s technical project, as relayed via Milannews.it.
The Rossoneri board’s assessment
The AC Milan hierarchy is now reflecting carefully. Gerry Cardinale and his collaborators will have to decide whether to truly entrust Rangnick with the keys to the project or move towards other options. The impressions remain positive after the Vienna meeting, but a final decision has not yet been made and Rangnick wants clarity.
Time, meanwhile, is running short. Rangnick is currently head coach of Austria and is waiting for a response in the near future. Milan will therefore have to decide whether to accept the German executive’s conditions and grant him full powers, or to give up on a profile long regarded as one of the most influential innovators in European football, and turn elsewhere. Zlatan Ibrahimović versus Cardinale: which path will be taken?
