Journalist Francesco Letizia has commented on AC Milan’s transfer market, highlighting a possible issue that could affect the club’s upcoming negotiations:
“We were waiting for Karetsas, but he went to Borussia Dortmund. We were hoping for Alajbegovic, but Juventus signed him. Before turning this into a full-blown crisis, one clarification: judgments must be made later, once we know who will arrive at Milan. Only then will the picture be complete and we will be able to analyse everything honestly.
Today, however, we cannot ignore the fact that these two players were very much appreciated by Milan and ended up moving elsewhere. In whose favour? We will find out, and that will make all the difference in the world.
A number 10 is essential, even just from a numerical perspective. In other positions, though, the quality level needs to be raised. To do that, however, Milan must first sell the players who need replacing. Take defence, for example, where it is clear that another starting-calibre player is still needed, but where Tomori must leave first.
It is not just a matter of money, or at least not only that. As things stand, Milan already have all the available places filled in their squad lists. In fact, to be precise, they even have two surplus players among the 17 non-EU senior players they can register.
Therefore, only a young player or an Italian player could join. This explains the interest in Soulé, who, having played more than three years in Italy after turning 17, is considered a ‘locally trained’ player and would not occupy one of the slots reserved for foreign players. Instead, alongside Terracciano, De Winter and Ricci, he would be included in the list of Italian players.”
