Another game without a goal for Gonçalo Ramos, but unlike in his recent outings, the Portuguese forward produced a very positive performance against Lecce yesterday, even providing the assist for Adrien Rabiot’s second goal for Milan. The former PSG and Benfica striker, who has so far scored just once against Venezia, worked extremely hard, held the ball up well and combined effectively with his teammates. However, once again, he failed to register a shot on target, something that had also happened in his previous three appearances.
Ramos still without a goal, but Amorim is not worried:
For a player who cost more than €70 million and was primarily signed to score goals, this is certainly a somewhat concerning statistic. Ruben Amorim, however, has shown no anxiety over Gonçalo Ramos’ performances and remains calm about his form, as relayed via Milannews.it. Speaking to 'Sport TV' after the 3-0 win over Lecce, he said: "It's normal, Ramos works hard, the goals will come. He has already scored, he has already provided an assist and, above all, he works very hard for the team. Today we were closer to him, and that’s why he played better. So, it’s a combination of both factors, but I’m very happy with Ramos."
The Portuguese forward’s struggles in front of goal are therefore not entirely down to him, but also reflect the team’s need to put him in better positions and allow him to spend more time inside the opposition penalty area. Against Lecce, the AC Milan forward once again played too far from goal for much of the game, with his presence more noticeable around the final third as he linked play than inside the box.
From that position, it is naturally more difficult to make an impact in front of goal. It will now be up to Ruben Amorim to find a way to get Ramos closer to the opposition goal and help him score more consistently.
