Yesterday, training resumed at Milanello without the fifteen players away on international duty and without the injured Saelemaekers. Amorim will have to wait a little longer before having the full squad back together.
The national teams are, however, managing the workload of Milan’s players carefully: yesterday afternoon, Chukwueze remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes as Nigeria lost to Guinea-Bissau in their second group-stage match of qualifying for the next Africa Cup of Nations.
Luka Modrić also started on the bench for the blockbuster clash between his Croatia side and reigning world champions Spain. The Croatian captain played the final nine minutes, replacing Inter midfielder Sučić. Modrić had started and played a decisive role in the previous match against the Czech Republic, scoring a goal. He will now face England and then Spain again on October 6, in what had originally been expected to be his final appearance for the national team before coach Bilić persuaded him to continue, as pointed out via 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' in this morning's print edition.
Ardon Jashari was once again in the starting lineup for Switzerland, retaining his place after the match against North Macedonia. The Milan midfielder played 71 minutes before being substituted with Switzerland two goals ahead against Scotland.
