Omari Hutchinson was one of the pleasant surprises of the evening which saw AC Milan beat RB Salzburg 0-4 in Austria.
When Milan fans saw him named in the starting line-up out wide on the right, a position that is not exactly his natural role, they had their doubts, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Englishman, who arrived on loan from Nottingham Forest towards the end of the summer transfer window, provided the assist for Cisse’s opening goal and impressed with several other moments of quality.
The only reason he did not get on the scoresheet himself was that he fired over from the edge of the penalty area in the first half, while in the second he was denied by a fine foot save from Zawieschitzky, a goalkeeper we are likely to hear much more about in the future.
“We were hungry. We wanted to win the ball, take control and score,” Hutchinson said after the match. “For me, this was another step forward. I’m really happy with my performance, and I just want to keep going in the same direction and maintain this level.”
When asked about his preferred position, Hutchinson gave a diplomatic response:
“It always depends on the game. Sometimes you get a lot of touches in central areas, while other times you receive the ball out wide. To be honest, I really enjoy playing on the wing, but ultimately, I just want to be on the pitch, wherever that may be.”
He may not have established himself as a regular starter just yet, but one thing is certain: we will be seeing plenty more of him soon.
